Rembering Chris Houston
On a personal note, for all of us here at 9NEWS...we're sad to say we've lost a very dear member of our own family.
Long time assignment editor Chris Houston lost his battle with pancreatic cancer Saturday morning, January 28, 2006. He died peacefully in his sleep at home in Silver Spring.
Chris was a key player in our newsroom and one of the most valuable members of the 9NEWS Team.
He managed our news desk, keeping an ear on what was happening around our city, running-down newstips and getting our reporters and photographers to the scene - first.
Often, Chris was also the conscience of our newsroom...never letting us lose sight of the importance of fair and balanced reporting.
Chris came to 9NEWS about 20 years ago as a reporter trainee. He's worked just about every job in the newsroom doing whatever necessary to help the broadcast.
Chris also ran our sports department for many months and made it known he was a huge fan of the Redskins and the Maryland Terps.
Chris played a role in ALL the big stories, including the sniper shootings and the attack on the Pentagon September 11th.
Chris Houston was only 42 years old.
He's survived by his mother, brother and his wife Karen Grey Houston - a reporter at Fox 5.
Our thoughts are with Karen and the family.
We'll miss you Chris.
